Swimmer Konovalov: Those wishing to go to the Olympics may end up on blacklists
World and European swimming championship medalist Nikita Konovalov spoke about the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Metaratings.ru.
Konovalov noted that many sports federations are calling for athletes not to go to the Olympics, while the opinions of the athletes themselves are taken into account. “But they cannot go against the system. Otherwise, athletes may end up on blacklists, lose their income, and not be allowed to attend training camps,” he summed up.
The athlete said that Russians who want to should go and win at the Games. “When athletes come to competitions, they also fight discrimination. The mayor of Paris said that she does not expect Russians at the Olympics. This is also a manifestation of Nazism that must be fought, just in a different form,” Konovalov noted.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians have been admitted to the competition as individual neutral athletes. Individual representatives of tennis, cycling, trampoline jumping, canoeing and swimming have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
