Zakharova: The decision to participate or not to participate in the Olympic Games is made by athletes and departments

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, assessed the refusal of Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Zakharova stated that the decision to participate or not to participate in the Olympic Games is made by athletes and departments that professionally deal with this. “I will express my personal, private opinion. I would like to hope that those who go to the Olympics will dedicate their participation – medals, achievements, records – and their non-participation, voluntary or forced, to those guys who are now on the front lines. And to those who accompany the guys on the front lines in the rear,” she shared.

The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians have been admitted to the competition as individual neutral athletes. Individual representatives of tennis, cycling, trampoline jumping, canoeing and swimming have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

Some of the invited athletes refused to participate in the Games. This decision was made by wrestlers and judokas.
