Basque: Berenguerrek 2027 is the first day of Athleticekin

Alex Berenguer has renewed his contract with Athletic until June 2027as announced by the Bilbao club. The contract that linked the Barañáin player and the red-and-white team ended on June 30, but the Navarrese attacker and the Biscayan entity have signed extend it for three more seasons, until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

Berenguer joined Athletic from Torino in October 2020, just after the start of the 2020-21 season. In the four seasons he has been a player for the Bilbao team, he has played in 169 official matches, and has scored 28 goals. Under the orders of Gaizka Garitano, Marcelino and Ernesto Valverde, he has alternated periods of the competition in which he has been a regular starter with others in which he has mainly played from the bench; however, he has been one of the players with the most games played in each season, always more than 40.

At 29 years old, Álex Berenguer, who came through the Osasuna youth academy, has been, with Athletic, champion of the Super Cup in 2021, and of the Copa del Rey in 2024. In the latter competition, in the final played at La Cartuja on April 6 against Mallorca, in the penalty shoot-out that decided the champion, he was responsible for taking Athletic’s fourth shot, and his goal gave the red-and-white club the title.
