This Friday, in a match valid for the quarter-finals of the European Championship, France faced Portugal at the Volksparkstadion and, after a goalless score in extra time, the French advanced to the semi-final on penalties.
France will face Spain, who beat Germany in extra time, this afternoon. On the other side, Portugal said goodbye to the European Championship.
The semi-final game will take place next Tuesday at 4pm in Munich. Portugal will face Croatia on 5 September in the UEFA Nations League. Kick-off will begin at 3:45pm (Brasília time).
The first dangerous move of the match came in the eighth minute. Bruno Fernandes crossed with venom, but Koundé cleared it for a corner. The number 8 lifted the shot to the near post, but the defense cleared it again.
France responded in the 20th minute with Theo Hernández. The full-back struck a powerful shot that was well saved by Diogo Costa.
Afterwards, the match cooled down and the first half ended with the score blank.
Already 12 minutes into the final stage, Rafael Leão, on the left of the attack, passed his opponent and entered the area, but was blocked by Camavinga.
At 24, it was France’s turn to have one of the best chances of the game, with Camavinga, who dominated on the right side of the attack and, inside the penalty area, crossed the ball wide.
In the first half of extra time, Cristiano Ronaldo wasted Portugal’s best chance in the extra time. The star received a cross from the right and, unmarked, sent the ball over the goal.
In the penalty shootout, despite the success of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Nuno Mendes, João Félix missed. For France, Dembélé, Koundé, Fofana, Barcola and Theo Hernández converted and secured qualification.
