Working in a shop was a pretty good job. Sometimes you managed to save something for yourself or someone in your family. You had to work hard so as not to return home empty-handed. As one person who experienced that period herself said in a conversation with our service:
You had to try hard for everything. It wasn’t like you went to the store and bought those herrings or meat. Not everything was so accessible. You had to fight for everything, wait your turn in the queue.
– Maybe if those times were now, when I’m 82, I wouldn’t have made it. But when I was 20-30, I managed to make it everywhere, even despite the queues, I knew how to argue and buy what I needed. Today I wouldn’t be able to do it, because I don’t have that cunning anymore – said our interviewee. More about it in the article above.

Polish apartments in the Polish People’s Republic? Copy – paste
The availability of non-food products was also average. Many people had exactly the same furniture sets, tableware and kitchen gadgets in their homes. They were not advanced devices, such as today’s slow juicers, blenders or thermomixers. However, they fulfilled their role perfectly in the times of the Polish People’s Republic. What’s more! They are still used in many homes today. Who remembers the powerful grinder that could also be used to make delicious butter cookies?
