Match TV explained its refusal to purchase rights to show European Cups by their price

The press service of the Match TV channel explained its refusal to purchase the rights to broadcast European Cups. This was reported by RBC Sport.

According to the representatives of the TV channel, they were not satisfied with the conditions. “Contrary to existing opinions, the TV channel lives “in the market” and cannot afford expenses that will not even come close to payback. To understand: we are talking about tens of millions of euros,” the press service said.

Earlier it became known that Okko will exclusively show the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League in Russia. According to the contract, the service will receive exclusive rights to show tournaments from the 2024/2025 season.

Match TV had a contract to show European Cups since 2020. It expired at the end of the 2023/2024 season.

Last season, the Champions League was won by Real Madrid, the Europa League was won by Italy’s Atalanta. The Conference League was won by Greece’s Olympiakos. Qualification for the tournaments next season starts in July.

On February 28, 2022, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments. The teams do not compete in European competitions.
