Crimean athletes who refused to participate in the 2024 Olympics will receive a million rubles each

Athletes from Crimea who refused to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games will be paid compensation, RIA Novosti reports, citing the press service of the head of the republic, Sergei Aksyonov.

“Athletes from Crimea who won the right to participate in the Olympics at the Russian championships but refused to go to Paris because they could not compete there under the national flag will receive one million rubles each,” the press service said.

The refusal of Crimean athletes to participate in the Olympics became known in April. Aksyonov noted that he fully supported the decision of local athletes, adding that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had betrayed the Olympic principles.

In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympics as individual neutral athletes. However, athletes who support the special operation in Ukraine or have ties to the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
