Valuev reacts to the suspension of an MMA fighter who called the Russian a “Russian pig”

Valuev cited the disqualification of a fighter who called his opponent a “Russian pig” as an example

The lifelong ban of Azerbaijani mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Javid Rzayev, who called his opponent a “Russian pig”, will serve as an example for others, said State Duma deputy and former world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev. He criticized the athlete’s behavior in an interview with Lenta.ru.

“It was absolutely necessary to punish him in a humane manner. The level of xenophobia that certain people can allow themselves is regulated by the rules. The federation’s charter specifically states that this is unacceptable and disqualification is possible, which is what was done. It is unacceptable to behave in such a way. I think that maybe this will serve as an example for everyone else,” Valuev said.

Earlier, the Russian Boxing Federation banned the athlete for life from participating in sports and other events held under the auspices of the organization.

The incident occurred at the Hardcore Fighting Championship tournament on May 22. Rzayev defeated Russian Sergey Prikhodko. After the fight, he got into a verbal altercation with another MMA fighter, Artur Kulinsky, during which he called him a “Russian pig.”
