Samuel Eto’o, a former player and current president of the Cameroon Football Federation, owes around one million euros in taxes in Spain, according to a list of debtors released on Monday by the Spanish finance ministry.
“Eto’o Fils Samuel” owes 981,598.19 euros (about R$ 6.27 million at the current price) to the Spanish Treasury, according to the document.
The 40-year-old former Cameroon striker who played from 2004 to 2009 for the Barcelona, was elected on December 11 as head of the federation of his country.

In November 2016, the Spanish Public Ministry requested a total of ten years in prison for the Cameroonian and the payment of 18 million euros (BRL 115 million at the current rate), accusing him of not having paid 3.9 million euros for his image rights during his visit to Barça.
Sought by the AFP, the tax administration said it was not authorized to provide more information on the origin of the debt and could not specify whether Samuel Eto’o was on the list for the first time, whose criteria have just been changed.
