Georgian Greco-Roman Wrestling World Champion Tsurtsumia Dies at 27

Greco-Roman wrestling world champion Nugzari Tsurtsumia has died at the age of 27. This was reported on the Georgian Wrestling Federation’s Facebook page (a social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).

The reasons for the athlete’s death are not specified. According to Primetime.ge, the athlete’s body was found in his home in the city of Khobi. The wrestler’s relatives believe the preliminary cause of the incident to be suicide.

The Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) expressed condolences in connection with the incident on its official website.

Tsurtsumiya is the world champion in the weight category up to 55 kilograms, he won gold at the 2019 world championship in Astana. In addition, the athlete has two bronze and two silver medals at world championships.
