Türkiye beats Austria to face Netherlands in Euro quarter-finals

On Tuesday, in a match valid for the round of 16 of the European Championship, Turkey faced Austria at the Leipzig Stadium and won 2-1. Demiral (2) was the one who scored for the Turkish team, while Gregoritsch reduced the deficit for the Austrians.

In this way, Turkey qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face the Netherlands, who also faced Romania on Tuesday and came out on top. On the other side, Austria said goodbye to the continental tournament.

The quarter-final match will take place next Saturday at 4pm (Brasília time) at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Austria will only return to the pitch on September 6th, against Slovenia, in the first round of the Nations League group stage.

Turkey opened the scoring in the first minute of the first half. Arda Guler took a corner from the right, the ball was poorly cleared by the Austrian defense and fell into the penalty area to Demiral, who hit it hard and high, scoring the first goal of the match.

The Turks extended their lead 14 minutes into the second half. Arda Guler took another corner kick, which was closed to the near post, Demiral rose higher than his marker and headed the ball into the back of the net.

In the 21st minute of the second half, Austria pulled one back. Sabitzer took a corner kick from the right, the ball deflected halfway and Gregoritsch took advantage to finish and reduce the difference.
