Tottenham agree to sign English prospect for R$287 million

Tottenham made official on Tuesday the signing of 18-year-old English prospect Archie Gray from Leeds United. The transfer fee is estimated to be around 40 million pounds (around R$287 million at the current exchange rate), according to English media. The midfielder has signed with Spurs until 2030 and will wear the number 14 shirt for the London club.

Having played for Leeds since he was eight, Gray made 52 appearances last season, his first as a professional. He was also named the Championship’s best young player for 2023/24.

Leeds’ failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League last season has forced them to make at least one lucrative transfer in order to comply with the league’s financial rules. They are one of the favourites to win promotion in 2025, having finished third last season, six points off immediate promotion, before falling to fourth-placed Southampton in the play-off final.

Archie is seen as one of England’s top prospects, especially as he has played at every level of the national team’s youth system. He is also part of the ‘Gray dynasty’ at Leeds. Before him, his father Andy, grandfather Frank and great-uncle Eddie were all well-known players in the team’s history.
