In Brazil vs Colombia, Dorival Jr meets James Rodríguez again and urges caution

In one of the most anticipated games of the first phase, Brazil will have to break Colombia’s 25-game unbeaten streak this Tuesday (2) to take first place in Group D of the America Cup.

Should they win the duel at Levi’s Stadium in Santa (California), Brazil will take the lead in the group and avoid a difficult quarter-final clash against Uruguay, who finished first in Group C after beating and eliminating the United States (1-0).

For Colombia, a draw already guarantees first place and a theoretically easier duel against Panama, which qualified in second place by defeating Bolivia (3-1).

At the moment, the Colombian team has 6 points, after victories over Paraguay (2-1) and Costa Rica (3-0), while Brazil is second with 4 points.

Brazil arrives motivated for the match after the 4-1 thrashing of Paraguay last Friday, with a show by Vinícius Júnior.

Dorival especially highlighted James Rodríguez, one of the sensations of the continental tournament and who was under his command at São Paulo until he was appointed to command the Canarinho team in January.

“He has always been a top-level player who has attracted attention due to his qualities and technical ability. He really feels so comfortable wearing the Colombian national team shirt that it is impressive in every aspect,” said the coach about the notable difference in the midfielder’s performance compared to his clubs.

Colombia, led by Argentine coach Néstor Lorenzo, unbeaten since taking over in June 2022, is enjoying a great attack thanks to James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz.

Ten years after the 2014 World Cup that launched him to stardom, James returned to shine for the national team when many thought his international career was over.

With three assists so far in the Copa América, São Paulo’s attacking midfielder continues to be a major threat from set pieces and when he has space to show off his vision of the game.

“James is a player to be marked, a player to keep an eye on. We know the quality he has with the ball, he is a good passer, he shoots well from outside the area”, warned Bruno Guimarães.
