Messi named to his first MLS All-Star Game

Inter Miami’s Argentine star Lionel Messi leads the list of players chosen to play in the MLS All-Star Game, against another team made up of players from the Mexican league.

Messi, who is with Argentina at the Copa America, did not participate in the event last year because he had just been signed by the Miami club.

The All-Star game will take place in Columbus (Ohio) on July 24, ten days after the Copa América final in Miami (Florida).

At 37, the Albiceleste’s number 10 remains the MLS’s top player, with 12 goals and 13 assists in 12 games this season for top-of-the-table Inter.

The other three former Barcelona players who are Messi’s teammates in Miami, Spaniards Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets and Uruguayan Luis Suárez, are also on the list of those chosen to represent the American league, which has two Brazilians: defender Thiago Martins (ex-Palmeiras), from New York City, and midfielder Evander (ex-Vasco), from Portland Timbers.

At last year’s event, the MLS team was thrashed 5-0 by Arsenal.
