Akinfeev said that the Georgian national team played very well at Euro 2024
Moscow CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev assessed the performance of the Georgian national team at the 2024 European Championship. His words are quoted by RBC Sport.
According to the Russian goalkeeper, the Georgians played very well at the tournament. Akinfeev personally singled out goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. “I think he has a great future ahead of him and many European clubs will be trying to get him. Therefore, Georgians should not worry. Everything will be fine. And so they left the group and jumped in over their heads,” he said.
Georgia lost to Spain in the Euro 1/8 finals on June 30. The match ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of the Spaniards.
The Georgian team has won a ticket to the final part of the European Championship for the first time in history. The team advanced to the playoffs from the group in third place, having scored four points in three matches. In the last round of the group stage, the Georgians beat the Portuguese (2:0).
