Playing his last tournament for Argentina, Di María admits suffering in farewell to the team

Midfielder Ángel Di María admitted on Tuesday that he is already struggling with his departure from the Argentine national team. The speech was made in the mixed zone after the national team’s 1-0 victory over Chile at MetLife Stadium in the second round of the group stage of the Copa América.

“I’m also suffering (laughs). I know there’s less and less left, I hope there are still four games left [número de partidas que faltam até chegar à final do torneio]I think that’s the only thing I want right now” he said.

The number 11 has already announced that this will be his last competition with the Argentina shirt. With the national team, Di María won a Copa América, a Conmebol-UEFA Cup and the 2024 World Cup.

With the positive result against Chile, Argentina qualified for the next phase and secured first place in Group A in advance, with six points.

Despite this, the midfielder stressed that the objective in the last round of the group stage of the Copa América is victory. The Argentine team faces Peru, on Saturday (29), at 9 pm (Brasília time), at Sun Life Stadium.

“We have to add three more points and this shirt demands that, doesn’t it? We always have to win, we have to get the three points,” she said.
