Alexander Usyk voluntarily renounced the IBF world champion belt
Ukrainian heavyweight boxer Alexander Usik announced that he voluntarily renounced the world champion belt according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF). The corresponding publication appeared on his Instagram account (social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta company, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
The athlete did this for the opportunity to arrange a championship fight for this title between British boxers Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. “The IBF belt is my gift to you on September 21, 2024. The world loves the strong,” Usyk said.
On the night of May 19, Usyk fought for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion with Briton Tyson Fury. The fight in Saudi Arabia lasted all 12 rounds and ended with the Ukrainian’s victory by a split decision – 115-112, 113-114, 114-113.
Usik remained undefeated, winning his 22nd fight in the professional ring.
