Switzerland and Germany reached the Euro 2024 playoffs, Hungary beat Scotland
The German national team played a draw with the Swiss national team in the third round match of the group stage of the 2024 European Championship, held in Germany.
Germany and Switzerland reached the playoffs of the tournament
Germany led Group A with seven points. The Swiss took second place with five points. The meeting between the teams took place in Frankfurt am Main at the Deutsche Bank Park stadium and ended with a score of 1:1. In the first half, in the 18th minute, the chief referee of the match, Italian Daniel Orsato, canceled the Germans’ goal due to a foul by striker Jamal Musiala in the penalty area. In the 28th minute, the goal was scored by Swiss midfielder Dan Ndoye. In the second minute added to the second half, the score was equalized by striker Niklas Füllkrug, and the Swiss missed out on victory.

In the playoffs, the Germans and Swiss will play the first and second teams from Group C, respectively. After the second round, the German team has already secured a place in the playoffs, gaining six points – defeating Scotland (5:1) and Hungary (2:0).
The last time Switzerland and Germany met was in the Nations League group stage in 2020. Then the national teams tied in two matches.
The Scots left the tournament
In the last round of the European Championship, the team played at the MHP-Arena stadium in Stuttgart with the Hungarian national team. The meeting ended with a score of 1:0 in favor of the opponent. The goal was scored in the tenth minute added to the second half by forward Kevin Chobot. Hungary’s winning goal was the latest in the history of the European Championships without extra time.
The Hungarian team took third place with three points and retains its chances for the playoffs. Scotland are in last place with one point. The teams had never played against each other in official matches before.

During the match, Hungarian national team striker Barnabas Varga was seriously injured. The footballer lost consciousness in the 70th minute after a collision with the opposing goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Varga fell to the lawn, after which his teammates shielded him from the spectators. The football player was carried off the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask on his face.
Varga is currently in the clinic. The striker was diagnosed with a concussion. It is noted that the athlete is still unconscious.
Footballer Daka was disqualified for shouting
Striker of Rubin Kazan and the Albanian national team Mirlind Daka was suspended for two matches of the European Championship. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) said that the reason was the football player’s offensive shouts towards the Serbs. The forward was found guilty of chanting after the group stage match of the tournament against the Croatian national team. Thus, Daku will miss Albania’s match against Spain and the 1/8 finals if the Albanians reach the playoffs of the tournament.
At the same time, Daku himself apologized for the nationalist chants that insulted the people of North Macedonia and Serbia. “And I feel a moral and professional obligation to do this for the sake of all those whose feelings were hurt,” he said. His father also considered the punishment excessive.

Security measures have been strengthened at Euro matches
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) said additional security measures will be deployed at stadiums to prevent untoward incidents. It is noted that any invasion of the field constitutes a violation of the rules of conduct and entails expulsion from the stadium, a ban on attendance at any international matches and a statement to the police.
The reason was that in the group stage match of the European Championship between the national teams of Turkey and Portugal, fans ran onto the field. After the end of the match, the players of the Portuguese national team went to the stands to thank the fans for their support, at that moment several strangers ran onto the field and were detained by the stewards. One of the security officers slipped and knocked down a football player, Portuguese Gonzalo Ramos.
