Georgia and the Czech Republic faced each other this Saturday, at the Volksparkstadion, in a game valid for the second round of the group stage of the European Championship. With goals from Schick, for the Czechs, and Mikautadze, for the Georgians, the teams were tied at 1-1.
With the result, both teams earn their first point in Group F. Due to their better goal difference, the Czech Republic occupies third place. Georgia appears in the lantern.
Georgia’s next match is scheduled for Wednesday, at 4pm (Brasília time), when they will face Portugal, in the third and final round of the Euro group stage. On the same day and time, the Czech Republic will have a duel against Turkey.
The Czech Republic started the game aggressively and after much insistence, found the first goal in the 19th minute of the first half. Coufal sent a strong throw into the area and Hlozek sent it into the net, but, after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to a hand touch by the number 9 when he dominated.
Despite all the dominance and pressure from the Czech Republic, Georgia opened the scoring. In the 45th minute, on a cross into the area, the ball hit defender Hranac’s hand, and the referee signaled the penalty. On the charge, Mikautadze converted with ease.
The Czechs looked for an equalizer at the beginning of the second half, in the 13th minute. Ondrej Lingr took advantage of a corner kick and headed it against the post. On the rebound, Patrik Schick appeared alone and sent it into the net.
