Chile is still dreaming of a place in the 2022 World Cup. This Thursday, the team led by Martín Lasarte defeated Venezuela 3-0, in the 12th round of the South American Qualifiers, in Santiago.
The hosts put a lot of pressure on in the first half, betting on plays on the sides with Alexis Sánchez and Brereton. It was in the set-piece, however, that The Red ensured victory.
On minute 17, Pulgar appeared free in the small area after a corner kick taken by Sánchez and turned his head to open the scoring. In a similar move, but 20 minutes later, another Sánchez corner kick resulted in another Pulgar headed goal.
Despite the advantage, Chile continued to press. In the first few minutes, Valdés submitted from outside the area and hit the post. At 27, it was Brereton’s turn to receive a throw from Meneses, take off in the attacking field, invade the area and touch the exit of goalkeeper Fariñez to give final numbers to the game.
With the victory, Chile left the second place in the Qualifiers and took the sixth position, with 13 points. Venezuela remains in last place, with just 7 points.
