Albanian Rubin player Daku apologized for nationalist chants at the Euro
Footballer of the Albanian national team and Rubin Kazan Mirlind Daku made a statement following the results of the Euro 2024 match against Croatia. He posted an appeal on his Instagram (the social network is prohibited in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).
According to him, men tend to apologize. “And I feel a moral and professional obligation to do this for the sake of all those whose feelings were hurt,” Daku wrote.
Earlier, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) launched an investigation into Daku. After the match with Croatia, while celebrating the draw with the fans, he chanted nationalist chants that insulted the people of North Macedonia and Serbia.
The match between Albania and Croatia took place on June 19 and ended with a score of 2:2. The Albanians managed to avoid defeat in added time to the second half, when Klaus Gyasula scored after a pass from Daku.
