Russian cyclist Vlasov, admitted to the Olympics, refused to participate in the Games
Russian cyclist Alexander Vlasov decided to refuse to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The president of the Russian Cycling Federation (RFC), Vyacheslav Ekimov, told RIA Novosti.
According to him, the track was not suitable for the athlete, and he also referred to the too tight competition schedule. “Our replacement is Gleb Syritsa. We haven’t started the replacement procedure yet, today is confirmation day. Tomorrow we’ll start studying,” Ekimov said.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the names of the first 14 Russians admitted to the 2024 Games in neutral status. Among them was Vlasov. On June 19, another athlete from this list, wrestling representative Veronika Chumikova, refused to participate in the Games.
The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Games as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not get to Paris. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
