Marquinhos responds to Messi and mentions Brazil’s defeat to Argentina in the last Copa América

Defender Marquinhos, from the Brazilian team, echoed a speech by Lionel Messi at a press conference held this Wednesday. This week, the Argentine star placed Argentina as favorites for the Copa América title as they are the current world champions and the competition itself. The Brazilian athlete and former colleague of Messi at PSG did not disagree, but countered by citing the last Continental final:

“The current champion is always the team to beat. But, regardless of the moment, we saw an Argentine team beat us in a Copa América and we were going through a better moment, so that doesn’t mean anything,” said Marquinhos.

“I think that from the moment you enter the field a lot changes. (…) It’s up to us to make sure that all this, all this strength takes us onto the field so that we can work together as a team , as the Brazilian team really deserves”, said the defender.

Marquinhos is one of the main leaders within the Seleção. In this spirit, the player prefers not to think so much about the future and focus on Brazil’s journey to the final.

“One game at a time, I think it’s also very important not to be thinking ahead, knowing that we have big challenges to face until we reach a possible final and become champion”, he concluded.

The Brazilian team debuts in the Copa América next Monday, at 10pm (Brasília time), and will face Costa Rica as the first challenge of this journey in the competition.
