WADA head Banka refused to come to the US Congress amid agency accusations
The head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Witold Banka, was summoned to the US Congress. NBC TV channel reports this.
“WADA, which is responsible for enforcing fair standards and anti-doping rules, has a disreputable record of fulfilling that mission,” said House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
Banka, in a response to the Americans, said that most athletes from the United States are not subject to the World Anti-Doping Code at all. This means that they cannot be tested for the presence of illegal drugs in the body. Banka also refused a call to the US Congress.
In May 2024, the US House of Representatives Select Committee on China accused the country’s Olympic Committee of supporting doping at the state level. The Americans compared what was happening in China with doping scandals in Russian sports. Officials from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) asked the International Olympic Committee to open an investigation.
