The climbers Iker and Eneko Pou and the peruvian Michael Quito have opened a new path in The Andes at 5,780 meters high, in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru after a 10-hour climb equipped with ice axes and crampons because of the ice.

It is a 12-pitch, 630-meter-long ridge that has been ascended in alpine style, without fixed ropes and without external support.

“We thought it was going to be much easier than it was, but the little ice we found, added to the loose snow and the size of the wall meant that we did not advance as fast as we wanted,” he acknowledged. Eneko Pouwho has suffered a fall without consequences in this ascension.

“We are very happy because we thought it was going to be a relatively easy climb to finish our acclimatization process, and we have found that almost unintentionally, we have signed one of our best ascents in the mountain range,” they said days after recovering the lifeless body of Italian mountaineer Tomas Franchinimissing in the area.

The Pou brothersof Victoriawill continue their expedition through Peruvian lands in search of new openings.
