In an electrifying match, Türkiye beats Georgia and wins the first European Cup debut in its history

Turkey beat Georgia 3-1 this Tuesday at Signal Iduna Park, in the first round of the Eurocup group stage. The Turkish team’s three goals were scored by Mert Muldur, Arda Guler and Akturkoglu. Mikautadze scored for Georgia.

This was Turkey’s first victory in the history of a European Championship debut. With the victory, the Turks have three points and assume the provisional leadership of group F. Georgia is in last place with no points gained. The other game in the group between Portugal and the Czech Republic will take place this Tuesday, at 4pm (Brasília time).

Georgia returns to the field next Saturday against the Czech Republic, at 10 am (Brasília time), at the Volksparkstadion. Turkey will face the Portuguese team on the same day, again at Signal Iduna Park, starting at 1pm.

The match started with clear dominance from the Turkish team. In the 25th minute, after Kadioglu’s cross was blocked by Georgia’s defense, full-back Mert Muldur hit a beautiful volley from the edge of the box, which put Turkey ahead. Yildiz scored another three minutes later but saw his goal ruled out for offside by VAR.

With 32 minutes on the clock, Mikautadze received it from Kochorashvili and relied on the goalkeeper’s poor reflexes to equalize for Georgia, in what was the first goal in the history of the Georgian team in the European Championship.

Arda Guler, from Real Madrid, put Turkey back in front in the 20th minute of the second half. The 19-year-old striker received the ball on the right side of the field and sent a beautiful shot from outside the area, which gave goalkeeper Mamardashvili no chance of saving.

In an electrifying end with great Georgian pressure, the team sent a ball towards the post and saw a Turkish defender clear the ball off the line shortly afterwards. Georgia’s goalkeeper went to the box to try to equalize the match, but the attack failed, which left Akturkoglu free to run and score Turkey’s third goal, in the 52nd minute, giving the final numbers to the match.
