Zhurova explained Kvaratskhelia’s words about terrible conditions at Lokomotiv as PR
Georgian football player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia described the harsh conditions for athletes during his career in Russia for the sake of PR, says State Duma deputy and Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, she commented on his words about the restrictions at the Lokomotiv training center.
“[Он сказал так] for a beautiful word, to describe something there, to thicken the colors. But I don’t think it was that (…) terrifying. If footballers are not kept in check, we understand how it will all end, so it is understandable that when they have important preparations for a match, any coach of any football club wants to keep them. We know how it ends when they are released,” the deputy explained.
Unfortunately, I lived with them at the same base, and when they weren’t being held, God forbid! (…) There are decent guys, but there are some, especially among those who should not go to the match – they don’t worry about discipline

Midfielder of the Italian Napoli and the Georgian national team Khvicha Kvaratskhelia spoke about the period of his Lokomotiv career when he moved to Moscow at the age of 17. “It was hard for me. I lived in a training center. The rest lived in other places. And it was a bit of a scary place! I am not kidding! It was in a deep forest, and you couldn’t go out there for a walk, because there were several dogs and the like,” he shared his memories.
In 2022, Kvaratskhelia moved to Napoli for ten million euros. Together with the new club, the midfielder became the champion of Italy in the 2022/2023 season and was recognized as the most valuable player in Serie A. Now Kvaratskhelia is the most expensive player from the countries of the former USSR, his transfer value is estimated at 80 million euros.
