Armenian gymnasts withdraw from BRICS Games because of Azerbaijani judge
Armenian gymnasts will not take part in the BRICS Games for political reasons. Match TV reports this.
“At first, a representative of Armenia was appointed as the chief judge. Then they changed it, and now the main judge of the competition is from Azerbaijan. So Armenia has withdrawn,” said gymnast Silva Sargsyan in an interview.
Earlier, Russian track and field athlete Kristina Makarenko called the comparison of the BRICS Games with the Olympics nonsense. “I hope no one even said it was the same thing. Emotions from the BRICS Games as from a big start? No at all,” the athlete noted.
The BRICS Games take place from June 12 to 23 in Kazan. At the moment, the Russian team is the leader in the overall medal standings, having won 249 medals, 120 of them are gold. In second place is the Belarusian team, which has 99 awards.
