Mbappé confirms that he will not play in the Olympics: “My club has a very clear position”

French striker Kylian Mbappé, from Real Madrid, revealed this Sunday in a press conference that he will not compete in the Olympics. The athlete wanted to defend his country at the Paris Games, but the Merengue team did not release any of its athletes for the competition.

“My club has a very clear position, I will not participate in the Games. I am joining a new team and arriving in September is not the best start. I wish the French team the best and I will watch all the games, of course, as fan. I hope they bring us the gold medal”, he said.

The Olympics take place from July 26th to August 11th. Due to the mandatory vacation, if he competed in the Olympic Games, Mbappé would only be able to introduce himself to his new team in September, when Real Madrid’s pre-season would already be completed.

The French team’s number 10 continues his preparations for his European Championship debut. The national team plays its first game this Monday, at 4pm (Brasília time), against Austria, at the Esprit Arena, in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Mbappé had some physical problems during the preparation for the tournament, but he claims to be ready for his debut, even though his body may not yet be 100%.

“I’m ready to win, it’s more of a mental issue. My head is perfect, now let’s see how my legs are,” he said.
