Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen will return to play in a European Cup match this Sunday, three years after suffering a cardiac arrest during the Nordic team’s debut in the 2021 tournament. The moment doesn’t keep the Manchester United player up at night: “I don’t think much about it “, he assured, this Saturday.
On June 12, 2021, at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest at the start of the match in which Denmark lost 1-0 to Finland.
The quick intervention of the medical services, which revived the player before the terrified looks of everyone present in the stadium, and the subsequent implantation of a defibrillator, allowed Eriksen to continue his career nine months later.
The number 10 was part of the Danish team that competed in the 2022 World Cup and, at 32 years old, continues to be part of coach Kasper Hjulmand’s plans.
“Where is your son?”… and then Rasmus comes right after 😅

“Personally, anything that is more than one game is already an improvement and my main objective was to recover this level”, he told journalists on the eve of Denmark’s debut against Slovenia.
“It’s been three years and a lot has happened since then, but I honestly don’t think about it much,” he added. “I just want to play football and think about positive things”, he reiterated.
This incident brought the team closer together and, despite the initial defeat against neighboring Finland, Denmark reached the semi-finals in the last European Championship, losing on that occasion to England 2-1, in extra time.
Denmark will face England again in Euro group C, which is completed by Serbia.
“I think they are great memories, although of course everything started in a very negative and pessimistic way, but then everything got better”, explained Eriksen, who has defended his national team on 130 occasions.
“But all that is behind us and now we will focus on the games in Germany”, concluded the midfielder.
