FSBR President Mamiashvili believes that the Olympics are a political instrument
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili spoke about the exclusion of leading Russian wrestlers from the Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by RBC.
“This decision is made by irresponsible people, who can hardly be called people,” Mamiashvili said. He also added that the International Olympic Committee does not follow the charter, but turns the Games into a political instrument.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) published a list of ten Russian wrestlers who received admission to the Olympic Games in Paris from a special commission. Two-time Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev and Tokyo Olympic winners Zaurbek Sidakov and Zaur Uguev were not among them.
On June 15, the IOC refused to allow all Russian taekwondo athletes to participate in the Olympics in Paris. “This is the final decision. As I understand it, it is not subject to any discussion or appeal. Without any explanation,” said the head coach of the Russian taekwondo team, Vadim Ivanov.
