Vyacheslav Koloskov said that Russian flags were hung at the Euro by brave people
Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov reacted to the appearance of the country’s flags at the opening match of Euro 2024 taking place in Germany. His words are quoted by TASS.
According to him, UEFA and FIFA do not prohibit bringing flags of countries that do not participate in the European and World Championships to matches. “Of course, it was pleasant and surprising to see the flags of the Russian national team appear at the match; there were brave people who came, and even with Russian flags. We will celebrate this as a good sign,” Koloskov noted.
The appearance of two Russian flags at the match in which Germany defeated Scotland (5:1) became known earlier on June 15. One of the tricolors hung outside the Scots’ gates bore the inscription “Belgorod”.
FIFA and UEFA suspended the Russian national football team from international competitions after the start of a special military operation on Ukrainian territory in early 2022. Valery Karpin’s team was unable to participate in the Euro 2024 qualification.
