Khamzat Chimaev’s manager said he pulled out of a UFC fight due to health reasons.
Mahdi Shammas, manager of mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Khamzat Chimaev, representing the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on his Instagram (the social network is prohibited in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) named the reason for his withdrawal from the fight against Australian Robert Whittaker in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
According to the athlete’s representative, this decision was made for health reasons. “The persistent illness that Khamzat battled for most of the training camp was not cured in time. He was hospitalized and discharged from hospitals several times,” Shammas said.
The removal of Chimaev from the fight became known earlier on June 14. The reasons for the incident were not stated.
The fight was supposed to headline the UFC Fight Night tournament, which will take place on June 22. In the second most important match of the evening, Russians Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov will meet.
