Paulo Fonseca and Milan signed a three-year agreement. The Portuguese will replace Italian coach Stefano Pioli, who was in charge of the Milan team for almost five years. Fonseca has already spent time at clubs such as Roma, Shakhtar Donestk, Braga and Porto.
In his last job, Paulo Fonseca spent two seasons at Lille and managed the French team in 90 games, winning 45 victories. The biggest titles in the Portuguese coach’s career are the Supercopa de Portugal in 2013 with Porto and, in 2015, the Taรงa de Portugal with Braga.
See the official note released by Milan this Thursday:
“AC Milan can confirm that Paulo Fonseca has been appointed head coach of the men’s first team.
Born in Nampula (Mozambique) on March 5, 1973, Paulo Fonseca began his coaching career in 2005 in the youth teams of Estrela da Amadora, before taking up positions in the lower echelons of Portuguese professional football. He made his debut on the bench in the first division for Paรงos de Ferreira, with whom he qualified for the Champions League play-offs. He arrived at Porto in 2013 and won the Supertaรงa, his first title as a coach.
After a spell at Braga, which he guided to the Portuguese Cup title, he joined Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won seven trophies and finished with a record of 103 wins in 139 games. In 2019, he made his debut in Italian football by moving to AS Roma, with whom he reached the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2021. LOSC coach since the summer of 2022, Fonseca concluded his time in France after two seasons, in which he contributed twice to qualify Lille for European competitions.
The Portuguese coach now arrives at AC Milan with a three-year contract. The Club wishes Paulo and his team a warm welcome”
