Manuel Fernandes doubted that a transfer to PSG would benefit Safonov
Former footballer of the Portuguese national team, as well as Lokomotiv and Krasnodar, Manuel Fernandes assessed the possible transfer of City goalkeeper Matvey Safonov to Parisian PSG. His words are quoted by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The player doubted the benefit of such a move for the goalkeeper from a sporting point of view, since the goalkeeper, in his opinion, is unlikely to be able to win a place in the starting lineup of PSG. “From the point of view of the club’s status and money, such a transfer is understandable. But if Matvey wants to be better as a player, in my opinion, this is not the best decision,” Fernandes said.
On June 7, Safonov was banned from leaving Russia due to non-payment of alimony. After recalculation, the goalkeeper ended up owing his ex-wife and daughter 60 million rubles.
On May 25, it was reported that Safonov was close to moving to PSG. It was clarified that the clubs had reached a final agreement on signing a five-year contract.
