Juventus announces Thiago Motta as new coach

Juventus officially announced this Wednesday (12) the hiring of coach Thiago Motta, who arrives at the Turin team to replace Massimiliano Allegri.

“It’s official. Juventus’ next coach will be Thiago Motta. The Italian-Brazilian coach has signed with Juventus until June 30, 2027”, said the ‘Old Lady’ in a statement.

Motta, 41, arrives at his first major European club after taking Bologna, the big surprise of the season in Italian football, to the Champions League for the first time in their history.

“I’m really happy to start a new experience at the helm of a great club like Juventus,” said the coach in the same statement.

The Italian press, which had taken Juve’s signing of Thiago Motta for granted for weeks, reported that the Italian-Brazilian will receive an annual salary of 3.5 million euros (R$20.4 million at current exchange rates).

Despite winning their 15th Coppa Italia, Juventus’ season was disappointing, falling 23 points behind champions Inter Milan in Serie A, and only managing three wins in their last 17 league games.

The Turin club’s board is betting on Thiago Motta to change the face of the team and implement its offensive style, whose great mentor is Gian Piero Gasperini, current Atalanta coach and who led Motta when he was a Genoa player.

Despite the fragile financial situation, Juventus wants to strengthen itself in this transfer window.

The names of Brazilian Douglas Luiz, midfielder for Aston Villa, and Englishman Mason Greenwood, who played last season for Getafe despite belonging to Manchester United, were mentioned as possible signings.
