IOC Director McConnell announced tracking of social networks of Russian athletes
International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sports Director Keith McConnell spoke about monitoring the actions of Russian athletes to determine their compliance with neutral status. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
McConnell said contracts, social media and other details are being monitored. “Of course, we are aware that time is running out, we are trying to complete this process in the necessary time so that the rules of selection for the Olympic Games are respected,” he said.
Earlier, Ukraine called on the IOC to suspend three representatives of the Russian national wrestling team from the 2024 Games – Dinara Kudaeva, Natalya Malysheva and Olga Khoroshavtseva. It was also proposed that wrestler Irina Kurachkina from Belarus should not be allowed to participate in the tournament.
The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Games as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
