“I think Inter Miami will be my last club,” says Messi

At 36 years old, Argentine Lionel Messi said he is thinking about ending his career at Inter Miami, a club in the United States with which he has a contract until the end of the 2025 MLS season.

“Today, I think (Inter Miami) will be my last club, yes,” Messi declared in an interview with ESPN which will be broadcast this Wednesday.

In another part of the interview, the captain of the Argentine team that will compete in the Copa América in the United States acknowledges that he does not feel prepared to hang up his boots after two decades of a successful career.

“I’ve done this all my life. I love playing ball. I enjoy it in training, in everyday life, in games. It’s a little scary that it will all end”, he admitted.

A year ago, Messi ended his career in European football, where he played for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, to move to Inter Miami.

The Argentine, who has never played professionally for a club in his country, said months ago that he made the decision to go to the United States with his family so he could continue playing without suffering too much pressure.

“It was a difficult step to leave Europe and come here,” acknowledged Messi. “The fact that I was world champion (in 2022) helped a lot to see things in a different way.”

“But I don’t think about it, I try to enjoy it. That’s why I enjoy everything so much more, because I’m aware that there’s less and less missing and I’m having fun at the club with the luck of having teammates and friends by my side,” he added.

“I feel very good in the national team, where I also have teammates and friends. I value the small details that I know I will miss when I stop playing”, he concluded.
