Roger Federer said he doubted Novak Djokovic’s success in tennis
Swiss Roger Federer said that at the start of Novak Djokovic’s career he doubted the Serb’s future success in tennis. He reported this in the documentary “The Last Twelve Days.”
“There was some hype around Novak, but I wasn’t completely confident in him. I think I didn’t show him enough respect because of his technical shortcomings. I felt Djokovic had a very strong forehand, but the backhand movement was not nearly as smooth as it is now,” Federer said.
Novak Djokovic is the best tennis player in history in terms of the number of Grand Slam victories in men’s singles. The Serbian has 24 titles, Rafael Nadal has 22, Roger Federer has 20. Djokovic also holds the record for the number of seasons completed as world number one – he has eight.
In early June, Djokovic withdrew from Roland Garros ahead of the quarterfinals. During the victorious fourth round match against Argentinean Francisco Cerundolo, the Serbian suffered a knee injury, due to which he will also miss Wimbledon.
