A substitute in Brazil’s 3-2 victory over Mexico last Saturday, Bento spoke about the fight for starting goal for the Brazilian team in the Copa América and praised goalkeeper Alisson, who started in the friendly against the Mexicans.
“Competing with Alisson, a guy I’ve always admired, for me he’s an idol in football, I grew up watching him play. So, for me it’s very gratifying to be able to compete for a position with him, especially in the Brazilian team. If I really have the opportunity to play, I hope I can have the same level of play that I managed to present in the last two friendlies for the Seleção”, said Bento.

The Athletico-PR goalkeeper was chosen by Dorival Júnior to be the starter in the Brazilian team’s friendlies in March, against England and Spain, a period in which Alisson was recovering from injury. Bento gained prominence in these matches and began to have his name increasingly mentioned in European clubs.
“It’s increased. I think it’s impossible not to change that, mainly due to the good image I left with the Seleção, two great friendlies, against two great teams. Responsibility has increased even more, especially at my club, Athletico-PR. The Seleção Goalkeeper has to represent I’ve been doing a great job, I hope to continue doing it, because the goalkeeper always has to maintain regularity, as I said, the responsibility has increased, I’m getting used to it and I’m enjoying it”, he said.
Bento did not hide his desire to play on the Old Continent, but highlighted that his main desire is to continue defending Brazil.
“I dream of playing in Europe, I think every player dreams of playing there. If that really happens, I hope it happens naturally, if any proposal arrives I will think about it very carefully and I will think a lot about my future, because By playing, we can reach the Brazilian team. I hope one day to go to Europe and continue playing and representing the team”, he revealed.
Brazil returns to the field this Wednesday, at 8 pm (Brasília time), when they face the USA, in a friendly, at the Camping World Stadium, in Orlando.
