France were in danger seven minutes into the first half. Dembelé made a good pass into the area for Kanté, who arrived at speed and hit the goal. Crépeau made the save. Afterwards, the French almost opened the scoring. Griezmann advanced from the right, crossed into the area, and Thuram arrived with a strong finish for another good save by the Canadian goalkeeper. With 18 minutes on the clock, Griezmann tried from outside the area and low, forcing Crépeau to fall and palm out.
Canada responded only after 30 minutes. Koné received the ball near the box and hit the goal, but ended up sending it over Maignan’s crossbar. France was again in danger in the 34th minute. Upamecano was left in the area, but headed wide after the team’s good offensive effort.
The start of the second half was a little more intense. Thuram had a good opportunity in the first minute, but saw the Canadian defense move away. Canada’s response came next with Millar hitting the post. At five, Giroud had a chance with a header and sent it close to the goal. The number 9 still had one more opportunity and saw the goalkeeper save. At 33, Jonathan David was in danger on Canada’s side.
Mbappé was called into action in the 30th minute of the second half and in stoppage time he made a good move, dribbling his marking, finished and saw his shot saved by Crépeau.
