Bestemyanova agreed with the redistribution of Olympic medals due to Valieva’s doping

Olympic champion in ice dancing Natalya Bestemyanova spoke out about the redistribution of medals at the Olympic team figure skating tournament due to doping by Russian Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by Soviet Sport.

“Why is the removal of medals controversial? Did Valieva not have any doping? Do you think that they lied and made it up? The second samples were opened and there was doping, unfortunately. Unfortunately for the girl, the whole team and the country, they found doping,” Bestemyanova noted. She agreed with the redistribution of Olympic medals, adding that this is normal practice.

On January 30, the team tournament medals were redistributed due to Valieva’s disqualification and cancellation of results. The Russian team moved from first to third place, gold went to the USA, silver to Japan. They plan to present medals to the Americans and Japanese at the 2024 Summer Games.

On January 29, Valieva was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The period of suspension is counted from the moment the sample is taken – December 25, 2021. The fact that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in it became known after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Games.
