People who suffer from high levels of work stress are 4.5 times more likely to intend to leave their job, according to the “Work in Progress 2024” study, prepared by Buk.
The report analyzes work stress, and at the same time, reinforces the importance of creating and maintaining healthy work environments as a key strategy for talent retention.
The report details that stress does not make differences according to responsibilities and roles, affecting managers, executives or administrative staff equally.
Also, it is particularly severe among women, who often face additional pressures derived from non-work responsibilities.
This point can be associated with the reality that they experience beyond work and that has to do with their second day: unpaid domestic work. Which means greater difficulties in reconciling work and personal life.
Work stress and its impact on health
When work stress is prolonged over time, it has implications for the health, well-being, performance of employees and/or the company in general. According to Buk’s data, high levels of work stress are associated with a greater intention to quit.
For this reason, organizations must seek to retain the best talent. It is necessary not only to monitor their commitment but also their well-being and work stress, as these factors can trigger resignation.
The “Work in Progress 2024” research also highlights that inclusive work practices and support programs can make a notable difference to the mental and physical health of work teams, fostering a more equitable and healthy work environment.
”Knowing these data gives us the opportunity to implement and promote policies that support mental health, work flexibility and the balance between personal and work life,” adds Sebastián Ausin, country manager of Buk in Peru.
”In addition to being beneficial for workers, it also leads to greater productivity and job satisfaction,” he said.
