Kafelnikov said that without his father’s heavy belt he would not have achieved his achievements
Olympic tennis champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov spoke about his father’s harsh parenting methods. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Kafelnikov shared that he grew up in Sochi and he wanted to go to the sea and return home late. “But a hard hand told me what to do. Without my father’s heavy belt, I would not have achieved my achievements,” he said, adding that it was his father who introduced him to tennis.
Previously, Kafelnikov supported Russian tennis players who changed their sports citizenship. “An athlete cannot wait by the sea for weather, wait for the political situation to change and for us to be returned to world sports on the same conditions as they were,” said the former first racket of the world.
Kafelnikov is the 2000 Olympic champion in men’s singles. He also won two Grand Slam tournaments (Roland Garros 1996 and Australian Open 1999). In addition, the tennis player won the Davis Cup in 2002 as part of the Russian national team.
