Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel was removed from Germany’s list of 26 players sent to UEFA for their home Euro 2024 contest (June 14-July 14), mainly due to doubts about the fitness of striker Leroy Sané.
In the previous list of 27 players presented in mid-May, German coach Julian Nagelsmann planned to compete in the continental tournament with four goalkeepers, but had to change his plans.
“It has nothing to do with Alex’s performances, he integrated very well into the group, he trained well. I spoke to him, he is part of the future with us in the DFB”, explained Nagelsmann, before facing Greece in Mönchengladbach in the last ‘Mannschaft’ friendly before the opening match of Euro 2024, on June 14th, in Munich, against Scotland.
Nagelsmann explained that given the doubts regarding Sané’s physical condition, he opted to have another field player instead of a goalkeeper.
