Morocco beats Zambia and takes the lead in Group E of the African World Cup qualifiers

This Friday, in a match valid for the third round of the African Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Morocco hosted Zambia at the Agadir Stadium and won 2-1. Ziyech and Seghir scored for the home team, while Chilufya decreased for visitors.

With the victory, the Moroccan team remained at the top of Group E, reached six points in two matches and increased the gap with second place, Zambia, which has three points, in second place, with one game more.

Morocco returns to the pitch next Tuesday, at 1pm (BrasΓ­lia time), against Congo, in the fourth round of the group stage. On the same day and in the same round, Zambia faces Tanzania, at 10 am.

Morocco opened the scoring six minutes into the first half, after a penalty. Ziyech took the penalty cross and low, with his left leg, to score the first goal of the match.

The home team increased the gap in the 22nd minute of the second half. Brahim dribbled past two markers on the right wing, reached the baseline and crossed to Seghir, who received it in the middle of the area and finished with his right foot to score.

At 35 in the second half, Zambia reduced with Chilufya. The striker dominated, beat two markers with speed and shot low into goalkeeper Bono’s left corner.
