Kroos approaches retirement and talks about his future after the Euro Cup

Toni Kroos’ retirement is knocking on the door. The German midfielder will compete in the European Championship with the German team and then say goodbye to the football pitch. The 34-year-old revealed his thoughts on the final games of his career approaching and spoke about his future after the European competition.

“I’m well aware of it, it’s coming (retirement). But that doesn’t keep me on alert and I don’t even expect to break out in a cold sweat. The countdown has started and I want to face these last games in the same way I was able to face the last Real Madrid games, that is, with the greatest possible success”, said Kroos, in an interview with the German newspaper Kicker.

The German also spoke about his future. According to Kroos, after leaving the field, he will spend more time with his family and focus on his players’ academy in Madrid.

“I will spend this time mainly with my family. I will continue with the podcast with my brother Félix. And I will continue to expand the Toni Kroos Academy for young football players in Madrid. From September the Icon League (a new futsal format) will also start. But it is also clear that I am not going to get involved in 18 projects now to stay as busy as when I was an active player”, analyzed Kroos.

Kroos will have at least three group stage games ahead of him. Depending on Germany’s performance at the Euros, he could play in seven matches in total. The German team debuts in the competition on June 14th against Scotland, at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Olympic stadium in Berlin.
