Fetisov: It makes no sense for Russia to justify itself in attempts to discredit the Olympic Games 2024
Two-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov responded to statements about Russia’s attempts to discredit the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by TASS.
“We are disrupting the American presidential elections, and now we want the Olympics. Even if they accuse us, it means they are afraid,” Fetisov said. He considered that it was pointless to make excuses, which means he needed to play along with those accusing.
On June 3, Microsoft researchers said that videos were being created in Russia, the purpose of which is to tarnish the reputation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the organizers of the Games. The company also accused Russia of filming fake news stories in different languages that described problems in preparation for the Olympics, including those related to security.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
