Rotenberg announced the degradation of hockey in the West without Russia

Coach Roman Rotenberg said that hockey in Canada and the USA is degrading without Russia

The head coach of SKA and the Russia 25 team, Roman Rotenberg, spoke about the impact of Russia’s removal on the development of hockey in the world. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Rotenberg, Western countries suffer from the absence of Russia because they have no competition. He stated that at the same time, projects are being implemented in Russia to maintain internal competition. “The pause will do us good. But our competitors – Canada, the USA, Finland, Sweden – are already degrading. Look at their results,” the coach noted.

Previously, the Russian national team rose to second place in the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) rankings. The suspended Russians improved their position after the defeat of the Finnish team in the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Cup. After this, the IIHF thought about revising the rating system.

In February, the IIHF extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams for the 2024/2025 season. The reason for this decision was the current security risks.
