Rubin footballer Bezrukov was disqualified for a joke about a cash bonus
Rubin Kazan midfielder Ruslan Bezrukov was suspended for three months for making a joke after the Russian Championship match against Zenit St. Petersburg. This was reported on the website of the Russian Football Union (RFU).
The athlete was also fined one hundred thousand rubles. Members of the RFU committee identified a violation of ethical standards in the football player’s statement about the cash bonus. The RFU said that the decision should additionally draw the attention of the football community to the fact that even hints of third-party incentives are considered gross violations of the regulations of the organization, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
On April 24, Bezrukov jokingly demanded a bonus from Krasnodar for defeating Zenit in the RPL match. The head of the RFU, Alexander Dyukov, considered the statement unacceptable, and the ethics committee promised to consider the midfielder’s words.
After this, Rubin announced that it had applied disciplinary punishment to Bezrukov. The club apologized for the player’s words and called them unacceptable.
